From then until 1948 many fundamentalists preached that Jesus could return any day, and some still do. On May 14, 1948, a prophetic miracle happened – the rebirth of the State of Israel. : for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, [we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Messiah shall rise first: I Thessalonians 4:15,16] and we shall be changed.¹⁷Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Master in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Master. ¹⁸Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
